What is IXL?

IXL is a comprehensive and engaging online learning platform that offers a wide range of educational exercises in various subjects, including math, language arts, science, social studies, and more. It provides personalized practice to students based on their individual needs and adapts to their skill levels, ensuring a targeted and effective learning experience.

Why are we using IXL?

We believe that IXL can greatly enhance their learning by providing additional practice and reinforcement of key concepts covered in class, as well as areas of weakness.  It offers a dynamic and interactive approach to learning that can benefit students of all abilities.

IXL and Academic Grading:

To encourage consistent practice and ensure that your child gets the most out of this valuable tool, I have implemented a weekly practice requirement for IXL outside of school hours. I kindly ask that your child dedicates a minimum of 100 minutes per week to complete exercises on IXL. These minutes will be counted as part of their weekly academic grade in the respective subject. By incorporating IXL into my grading system, I hope to foster a habit of regular and independent learning, as well as strengthen your child's understanding and mastery of the curriculum. It will also serve as an opportunity for students to take ownership of their learning and progress.

How can you support your child?

As a parent/guardian, your support and involvement are crucial in helping your child make the most of their IXL experience. Here are some ways you can assist:

1. Encourage a consistent routine: Help your child set aside dedicated time each week for IXL practice. Establishing a regular schedule will create a habit and reinforce the importance of independent learning.

2. Provide a conducive learning environment: Ensure your child has a quiet and comfortable place to work on their IXL exercises. Minimize distractions and create an atmosphere that promotes concentration and focus.

3. Monitor progress: Take an active interest in your child's IXL activities. Monitor their progress, review their achievements, and discuss their areas of improvement. Celebrate their accomplishments and offer support where needed.

4. Communicate with Mrs. Strickland: If you have any questions or concerns about your child's progress on IXL, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. I will be happy to provide guidance, suggestions, and address any questions you may have.
